Taking advantage of a warm, sunny day yesterday, I spent a few minutes pottering in the garden.
I was standing admiring some winter aconites, loving their cheerfulness and ruffly collars,

when I noticed a little face in the dry stone wall in front of me. I froze, and it sat and twinkled at me, with shiny whiskers whiffling and little elderberry eyes shining. We faced each other for at least thirty seconds before it vanished back into the wall, only to reappear two stones further on, when I was able to watch it again for a while. Dried bird food had fallen off the top of the wall where we spread it, and this little creature has found the daily bounty and made its home in the wall behind the larder.
(Again, not my photo, unfortunately, but comes from pinguicula.typepad.com. What a wonderful picture!)
Finally, the little field vole vanished once more and I left, so that it could go back to its lunch in peace, without worrying about my presence. Its lovely to feel that Nature is on the move again.
But snow is forecast for next week. Oh, just when I thought Winter was behind us. Foolish woman!

Yet MORE snow???? Is this like an all-time record for snowfall in your area? What a strange winter.

I imagine the little vole probably has a better feel for the up and coming weather than we do Sweff. {:)
