All week, ever since I returned home, I have been struggling with jetlag. Not feeling ill or anything, just washed out and unable to wake up before my normal California time which is eight hours earlier than here. Similarly, I haven’t been getting to sleep normally, some days two in the morning, some days three or four a.m.
I have been told that you need an hour every day to realign your body clock and this seems to be the pattern for me. So first day I woke up at three in the afternoon: second day two in the afternoon, third day one o’clock. On Thursday it was twelve thirty so I thought ‘enough is enough’ I need to get back to normal faster than this. So on Thursday night I did not go to sleep but worked all through the night, stayed up all Friday (feeling dreadful, unable to concentrate or work, hence no blog that day) and went to sleep at about midnight on Friday night. And when did I wake up today, Saturday? 11.30 in the morning. So that hasn’t worked, I’ve just lost a lot of sleep and risked getting a migraine. I should be waking up at eleven by now and ten tomorrow.
There are appointments to keep, places to be: still by Monday I should be waking at 9.0 a.m. so by next Thursday when I MUST be up at 7.0 a.m. it should be possible. According to one friend this process appears gets more difficult as one gets older but I feel so sorry for frequent transatlantic travellers and shift workers who have to deal with this on a regular basis and don’t have the luxury I have of being able to sleep when their bodies absolutely refuse to cooperate. However, enough whinging from me.
It is Bank Holiday Weekend here, when everyone wants to be able to relax, hopefully get a break, do some gardening, get out in the country, go to the seaside etc. after the long winter shut in because of snow and ice.
